HISTORY
When my father died in 1984, I inherited a small book of his entitled History. The significance of the book is not in the content but in the fact that he bound this unique edition when he was a student at the New York School of Printing before being drafted into World War II. Ultimately, what I really inherited from him (aside from an understanding and love of printed matter) was an abiding desire to work with my hands.

This catalog represents my work of the past several years (with some exceptions) in a configuration created for this exhibit. I generally create and present my photographs in series, which unfortunately, in many cases, limits a viewer’s reading of the work. Here I have decided to set that strategy aside and make the connections between one photgraph and the next more tenuous, perhaps more confusing, but, I hope, richer and more challenging.

History is not merely the title of my father’s book or mine. It is the connection between us and between my various bodies of work. The history of nature, of the objects I have photographed, and, of course, the history of photography are also my concerns in creating this book and exhibit.

Price for the book, including a tipped-in and signed gelatin-silver photograph, is $60. Contact me for further information.
